Pallet Frame wall decor

Well I didn't start out the weekend thinking I'd have a project to work on, but you know how things go!  Phil and I woke up Saturday morning and took a drive to Franklin, NC and inspiration hit, but of course.  Wait....I'm getting a bit ahead of myself.

Last weekend I went to Lakewood 400 Antiques with a friend and she was in search of a tin piece she had previously seen to hang on the wall above her bedroom headboard.  It was a sheet of tin, painted, then framed - I believe the cost was $75-$80 and I think I'm being conservative with that number.  She did find the vendor but unfortunately the Tarheels blue tin had sold out.  I happened to pick up another gold frame with mirror and two fabric scrolls.  Now back to this weekend...

While visiting the Whistle Stop Antique Mall yesterday I stumbled upon 3 large unfinished tins...and so it begins.  Each tin was $17 (no haggling with them, boo) but I still grabbed all of them.  When we got home I dropped Phil off and headed to Lowes - picked up the spray paint, felt tabs (don't want to scratch the walls!), tacks, and of course more pallets (to make the frames).  I then stopped by Joann Fabrics and picked up a remnant piece to cover the back.

Here are the pics of what I accomplished so far.  My reciprocating saw died before I could cut the pallets.

I DID IT!  I'm so excited to show everyone my first final product.  So much so that I forgot to take pictures during the steps!  Ugh, sorry guys but I have 2 more to do so I'll definitely keep track and add them to the next ones.  Right now, this is the gift I made for the friend I mentioned in my previous post. I took it to her house today and she was very surprised. I'm so happy!

Remember, I found 3 wall tins ($17 ea), each 2'x2', at an antique mall in NC.  I picked up the materials at Lowes and Jo-Ann Fabrics and the pallets were behind the local Lowes as well.  Total cost, roughly $25 per piece.

OK so I'd like to add that I did ALL the woodwork.  I separated all the pallets, sanded all the wood, and cut all the angles and attached the frame..ALL BY MYSELF!  Thank you, thank you very much :-)
